The Southeast Region of Alaska touts a strong basketball history and a heated rivalry or two.  Ketchikan High School (Kayhi) basketball enjoyed good times and made it through some lean times.  All the while, people kept the history alive by talking about it with family and friends.

Concerned the history would be lost, Brad Groghan spent years researching old newspapers, interviewing residents, talking with players and coaches, and looking through stacks of records to compile 50 years of Kayhi Basketball.

The book starts in the 1960’s as Groghan sets the stage by covering each season year by year.  He tells it the way the research revealed it.  It’s not always pretty, but it’s how it was.

After sharing each season with the reader, Groghan selects his all-decade team comprised of members who contributed the most to Kayhi basketball that decade.  He doesn’t always use high numbers to justify the player he picked.  Sometimes he selects a team member simply because of the player’s well-earned reputation.  Groghan knows people won’t always agree with him, but that’s okay with him, because any sports history book ought to spark some good and heart-felt discussions among fans.

If you’ve even watched a Kayhi basketball game, if you’ve ever played in a kayhi basketball game, or if you know anyone who has, you’ll want to get this book and relive the glory days of 5o Years of Kayhi Basketball.
